Browsers: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox

Of the 3 browsers I use Internet Explorer the most, as this is the default browser at work.  I download both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and tried some of the tasks set for us.

I think my favorite of the two was Mozilla Firefox, as it was easy to use and the instructions on using it were very clear and detailed.  I don’t know whether I will change my browser though, as I have become so used to using Internet Explorer at work and old habits die hard.

Wordle and QR codes

I really enjoyed using Wordle as it was so simple to use.  I did spend a lot of time just experimenting with the different fonts and looking at the layouts available.

One of my colleagues has used word clouds before in a marketing drive around valentines day.  They managed to create a word cloud advertising the library services in a heart shape.  This was then used on posters, which were displayed around the library and hospital.  She recommended using this site http://www.tagxedo.com/app.html as it has more variations than Wordle.

I had great fun using the three different sites to create QR codes.  I found the first site the simplist to use, but the QR code I created was huge when I transferred it on to a word document.

I must say a big thank you to my colleague June,  who kindly allowed me to use her smartphone to test all my QR codes.  They did work.

We already use QR codes on our services leaflets and guides.  I feel more confident discussing them now I have actually seen them work and feel that we could use them in displays in the library.

I have certainly started to notice more QR codes about in magazine adverts and posters since doing this exercise.
